Coates’ death was informed by one of his Facebook posts.
In which his friend wrote that “This may be the hardest post I have ever done … Just learned from Terry ‘Sabu’ Brunk that Super Genie Melissa Coates passed away this afternoon.. I asked her Have also spoken to brother, JR Coates and niece, Cassie. He asked me to post this sad news…,”.
The wrestling world is shocked by the news of his death. Melissa made her debut in the field of wrestling in 2002. She was a bodybuilder and fitness model before entering the wrestling ring. She joined WWE in 2005 as part of the Ohio Valley Wrestling Development Region.
Melissa had life-threatening injuries on her leg in 2020, due to which she had to amputate her leg. His stint in Impact Wrestling was also successful. Last year he started a GoFundMe campaign for his treatment.
Coates received support from many people, including many well-known wrestling personalities and fans. The news of his demise broke many hearts, after which many big names in the wrestling world took to Twitter to express their condolences.

Bayley wrote from the WWE Universe, “My first match was against Melissa Coates. When you share a ring with someone you have a connection with them forever and I am honored to have it with them. Thank you for being so sweet, helpful and for opening up my brace face. ‘I will never really forget you.’
At the same time, Natalya wrote that “I am saddened to hear about the passing of Melissa Coates today. Melissa was always very kind to everyone she met and had a huge heart. He said it was his favorite picture of himself. You are loved and missed, Melissa”
