Valorant is a free-to-play first-person hero shooter developed and published by Riot Games, for Microsoft Windows. First teased under the codename Project A in October 2019, the game began a closed beta period with limited access on April 7, 2020, followed by an official release on June 2, 2020. The development of the game started in 2014. Valorant takes inspiration from the Counter-Strike series of tactical shooters, borrowing several mechanics such as the buy menu, spray patterns, and inaccuracy while moving. Riot Games have announced that Split will be removed from the Valorant Competitive and Unrated map pool. They’re doing so to make room for the new map, Pearl, coming in mid-July. Now, why exactly is Split being removed from Valorant? Is it getting deleted completely, or just the Unrated and Competitive pools? Well, let’s find out.

Valorant Split Getting Removed from Competitive and Unrated Map Pool

For information let us tell you that we have already established, SplitMap is being removed from the Valorant Competitive and Unrated map pool. The change will happen when update 5.0 comes out, which should happen on Wednesday, June 22nd. From then til Tuesday, July 12th, you’ll have to contend with a six-map pool, before the new Pearl map launches. As for esports events, Split will bow out after the LCQ’s in August. Worry not, the map will still be playable in custom games, Spike Rush, and other alternate game modes.

Now the thing to think about is, why have the developers decided to do this, it can basically keep the number of maps balanced to seven. They want to add a new map to the roster, so one of them has got to go. Why Split in particular? Well, according to the official announcement, Split is being removed from the Competitive and Unrated map pool in Valorant based on several factors. These include “player sentiment, time since release, past and future planned updates, what the map brings in terms of strategic variance, as well as where Pearl fits into all of it.”

Now this question must be running in your mind that is this the last we will see about split in competitions? No, that doesn’t seem to be the case. There is no date set for its return, but the post does make several allusions to it. The post ends with the words: “We’re pretty sure it will be back sometime in the future though. Maybe even with some tweaks?” So, yeah; some day, Split will come back.
