As the next generation of graphics processing unit (GPU) technology approaches, the two major forces in the industry are preparing their next offerings. In a recent tweet, it was suggested that Nvidia could offer a graphics card with 100 teraflops, or TFLOPS, of "raw computing power". Given that the AMD equivalent can hold 92 TFLOPS, it seems clear that the two tech giants are still at odds as this era of GPU performance sees them last months. Of course, it must be said at this point that this is just speculation.

The report goes on to say that this could be a reference to the yet-to-be-announced RTX 4090, which will be the green team’s flagship product in the incoming Ada Lovelace range. For comparison, the somewhat disappointing Nvidia RTX 3090 Ti has 40 TFLOPS, meaning that this elusive new GPU, if rumors are to be believed, will be 2.5 times more powerful in terms of PC performance. It must be said that, similar to recent AMD TFLOPS speculation, this does not mean that the entire graphics card will be 2.5 times more powerful than the 3090 Ti in all respects, only in teraflops.

As stated in that report, it has been suggested that Nvidia may release the 900W RTX 4090 Ti at some point. Considering that the 3090 Ti, the most powerful graphics card on the current market, has a TDP of 450W, that would theoretically make this piece of hardware twice as hot. Again, this is not confirmed, but it stands to reason that as GPUs become more powerful in terms of performance, they will require more power to run.

For information, let us tell you that AMD has recently released its budget RX 6400, along with the much-awaited version of the aforementioned 3090 Ti from Nvidia. However, each company has more products to reveal before moving forward in the industry. There's still a lot of time. Of course, Intel hasn't entered the ring yet, and while the Arc desktop cards are set to be released this summer, it's hard to see how Blue Team will fare against the other two GPU giants.
