Rocket League is a vehicular soccer video game developed and published by Psyonix. The game was first released for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4 in July 2015, with ports for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch being released later on. In June 2016, 505 Games began distributing a physical retail version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment taking over those duties by the end of 2017. Versions for macOS and Linux were also released in 2016, but support for their online services was dropped in 2020. The game went free-to-play in September 2020. If you’re having problems with voice chat not working in Rocket League, we’ve got you covered. Communication is an essential part of competitive online games, and that’s especially the case for RL. Being a fast-paced team game, proper and well-timed coordination can only be achieved via voice comm. Unfortunately, recently many players are experiencing issues with Rocket League voice chat. Read on to learn how to fix and use voice chat in Rocket League.
How to Fix Rocket League Voice Chat Not Working
As we all know, voice chat has been absent in Rocket League for quite some time now. Developer Psyonix has been working on a new and improved version of voice comms, and the May 9th update marks the return of voice chat in RL. Team and Party voice chat channels are enabled by default, so they shouldn’t be problematic to use. However, many players are still having issues with voice comms in RL.
To fix this problem first you need to check if you have disabled this feature by mistake. In Rocket League head to Settings -> Chat -> Voice Chat Settings. There, make sure that the “Enable Voice Chat” box is checked. Also, make sure that you are not muted in the game. Sometimes players accidentally mute themselves, and then forgot about it. Another basic thing you need to check is if your input/output device’s sound is not turned off. Click on the speaker icon on your taskbar, and turn up the volume of the device you are using.
If we talk about another way to fix this problem then you have to check if your headset and mic are working properly or not. Try using your headset in other apps. For example, another game or Discord. If those apps recognize your microphone/headset, the issue is most likely not related to it. If your microphone is not working in other apps as well, then Windows for some reason doesn’t recognize your device.
You also need to have an up-to-date microphone drive installed. Don’t have any other audio input device connected to your PC, as it might create conflicts. If you are playing the game on Steam, use the Verify Integrity of Game Files feature to make sure that everything is working properly.
