If you want to play Lost Ark with friends in co op, you'll need to complete the prologue first. It takes about half an hour, give or take, but you have to go through it on your own. Once this is done, you can finally invite people to join you. The first step is to click the Community button at the bottom left of the screen, and then click Friends (or hit the "U" key, by default). In the smaller Friends side window, click the Requests tab, then click the Friend Request button at the bottom.
For this, first of all, enter the name of your friend in the search bar and click on OK. By name I mean you need to know what their in-game character is called. It sends friend request. Wait for them to accept it and come online, then click the Friends tab in the same menu where you sent the request. Next, to play Lost Ark with friends in co-op, find their name in the list, right-click on it, and click Party Invitation. Boom, now you're separated and can play together. Keep in mind, however, that you need to be online in order for them to party. It makes sense, but bears mention.
