Elden Ring is an open-world action role-playing developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game, directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, was made in collaboration with fantasy novelist George R. R. Martin, who provided material for the game's setting. Elden Ring was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on February 25, 2022. Elden Ring’s Time of Day cycle is one of the brand new mechanics in FromSoftware games. Being a spiritual successor to Dark Souls games, Elden Ring is heavily inspired by the legendary action RPG series. You’ll see this through many aspects of the game. And while many mechanics are carbon copies of those we know from Dark Souls, there are a few original ones, like the aforementioned time of day. Read on to learn how can you change day and night in Elden Ring. Elden Ring is a first FromSoftware game with the Day & Night cycle

Elden Ring Change Time of Day

You never know how time will pass in Elden Ring as you play the game and explore the world. Similar to many other RPGs with day and night cycles, you'll also be able to change the time of day. You won't be able to select an exact time like in some other games, but you will be able to choose between morning, afternoon and night. Choosing one of these three options will take you immediately to that time of day.

Change time of day in the Elden Ring, simply go to any site of Grace (bonfire as we know them from Dark Souls) and select the Pass Time option. You will be presented with the three above mentioned times of day - morning, afternoon and night. Simply select the time of day and the game will switch to that immediately.

Elden Ring Morning, Noon, and Nightfall Differences

For information, let us tell you that the day and night cycle of Elden Ring is not for complete immersion, as it also has many gameplay mechanics around the time of day. If you're planning on playing a stealth-based build, you'll be more proficient at night. Stealth and hide will work much better, and the visibility of most enemies will be reduced.

Furthermore, there are some specific types of enemies that lurk in the shadows and will appear only during the dark hours. For now, we know that you’ll encounter Giant Bats and the Black Knight on Horseback at night.

For information, let us tell you that at present, depending on what time of the day, many enemies will also change their spawning positions. Some enemies can be more powerful at a specific time of day. Some places may be heavily guarded during the day, but may become empty at night. Did you learn about some of the other differences?
