Government inaction on vaccination after Supreme Court’s rebuke: The very next day after the announcement of giving free vaccine to the states, the Center ordered 44 crore doses, 30% of the amount also released

The very next day after the announcement of giving free vaccine to the states, the central government has placed a huge order for the vaccine. The Health Ministry on Tuesday issued an order for 44 crore vaccines. This includes 25 crore Coveshield and 19 crore Covaxin. The government has also released 30% of the order amount to the companies in advance.

Free vaccination of 18 plus from 21st June

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced in a message to the nation on Monday that from June 21, those above 18 years of age would also get the benefit of free vaccine. The Ministry of Health has issued new guidelines for the vaccination program. According to this, the central government will buy 75% of the doses from vaccine manufacturers and give it to the states free of cost, but the states will have to avoid wasting doses of the vaccine, otherwise the supply will be affected. It has also been said that the price of vaccine for private hospitals will be declared by the manufacturing companies only.

States will decide the priority for vaccination

The states will have to decide the priority in the number of doses of vaccine that the states will get from the Centre. Healthcare workers will be at the top of this priority. After this, people above 45 years of age and then those people whose second dose is left. After this, the number of people above 18 years of age will come. For their vaccination, the state government will be able to decide the priority according to its own.
