God of War is an action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). It was released worldwide on April 20, 2018, for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) with a Microsoft Windows (PC) version released on January 14, 2022. The game is the eighth installment in the God of War series, the eighth chronologically, and the sequel to 2010's God of War III. God of War just came out for PC and players are loving it. The game is well optimized but a few bugs and known issues can be found here and there. However, if you are facing any issues, we will give you some workarounds that you can use. You can find a compiled list of God of War bugs and their fixes on the PC right here.
Unlike previous games, which were loosely based on Greek mythology, this installment is loosely inspired by Norse mythology, with the majority of it set in ancient Scandinavia in the realm of Midgard. For the first time in the series, there are two protagonists: Kratos, the former Greek God of War who remains the only playable character, and his young son, Atreus. Following the death of Kratos' second wife, and Atreus' mother, they journey to fulfill her request that her ashes be spread at the highest peak of the nine realms. Kratos keeps his troubled past a secret from Atreus, who is unaware of his divine nature. Along their journey, they come into conflict with monsters and gods of the Norse world. With that said, we’ve taken these issues to our own accord and therefore have compiled a few issues and their fixes that might just help you out. We’ve suffered some of these issues ourselves when playing the game. Without further ado, let’s dive right in and take a look at the God of War known issues, bugs, and their workarounds.
All Bugs, Known Issues and Fixes for God of War
In this article we have compiled for you a list of most known issues in God of War along with most of their improvements. We might miss an issue If you don't see an issue for you listed, let us know! We will add it here.
No Fullscreen Option
Several players have reported that the game does not have a fullscreen mode. Instead, just a borderless window option. Whenever you go to the display settings, you will not get the option of fullscreen at all. And the most interesting thing is that this problem is present only in DirectX 11 version of the game. Players using the DirectX 12 version have the full screen option which is quite strange.
File Verification is Slow
Many fans have downloaded the game but the players who downloaded it are saying that it is taking a long time to verify all the files. Some players even said that they are on an SSD and still facing this issue. We don't know the exact cause of this problem, but we can expect the developers to fix it soon.
PC Fans Making Noise
Many players are not considering this to be a common problem, players have reported that their PC fans started making a lot of noise while installing the game. However, everything seems to be normal during the match. It is not clear why there are issues while installing the game but everything works normally while playing the game.
PS5 Controller Not Displaying Buttons
Players playing on a PS5 controller - DualSense - may have noticed that the buttons displayed on the screen are incorrect. The reason is still unknown to us but it seems to be happening only on PS5 controller. A user also complained that they were seeing Xbox button prompts when using the PS5 controller.
I will tell you one more thing which I don't like in this game is that, there is no bluetooth driver for dualsense for pc yet. When the DualSense controller is connected over Bluetooth it is seen as a normal controller and thus is showing the Xbox Glyph in-game. To get the correct DualSense button signal, please connect your controller to your PC directly using a wire.
Mouse Delay When Turning
Now we can say that players have finally got a chance to play God of War on mouse and keyboard. But it has also been reported by several players that there is a problem where you will encounter a slight delay when moving Kratos with the mouse. Minimizing the game and starting it back up is most likely to fix this problem. However, since the game has just launched, it will surely be fixed in an update.
Double Inputs When Using Dual Shock 4
Some users seem to have an issue where the game would register your commands twice. Not only that, many users are saying that they can’t play the game with Dual Shock 4.
This issue is due to the way Steam captures game inputs. Please use this workaround:
- Open up the Steam Library
- Select God of War
- Click the Cogwheel on the right and click properties.
- On the left menu, click Controller
- Change the OVERRIDE option to “Disable Steam Input”
Not Enough Memory
As many people have told us that this is a common problem that players are facing. However, don't worry because there is a simple solution. Despite having beefy hardware, players reported that they found the "Not Enough Memory" problem. To fix this, you need to go to Device Manager and disable internal graphics.
