If you want to summon spirits with ashes to the Ring of Elden, you'll need to put the ashes in your equipment. After this you have to press your D-pad until the spirit is selected. To summon the spirit, press ☐ on Playstation or X on Xbox. There are other prerequisites for summoning spirits though. The first step is to locate the location of the Spirit Calling Bell item. Fast travel to the bonfire at the Church of Aleh after you get to Spectral Stead Mt. It has to be by fast travel. This should trigger another NPC, the witch Rena, to appear. Talk to him and tell him you can call the horse. She will give you a spirit calling bell.
Now, if you want to summon Elden Ring spirit ash all you need to do is place your summon Elden Ring spirit ashes in a quickslot and use the ashes yourself as you would for any other item. You can do this only if you see an arc icon in the middle on the left side of the screen, as shown below. If you set foot outside this realm, the spirit will disappear, so always keep that in mind.
