Horizon Forbidden West is an action role-playing video game developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. A sequel to 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn, it is a single-player open world game set in a post-apocalyptic version of the western United States. The player must travel and complete missions using survival skills, melee attacks, and long-distance weapons in a world overrun by a deadly plague, hostile machine creatures, and other survivors. Like most open-world games, Horizon Forbidden West has an eclectic selection of skills you can unlock and use. These dramatically alter the way the game is played, expanding what you can do and making you much more powerful. However, not all skills are equal, and this is especially true in the beginning, when you will be starved for skillpoints. To help you not waste those precious SP on suboptimal skills, our Best Starting Skills Horizon Forbidden West guide is here to tell you which skills are must-haves in the early game.

What Are the Best Starting Skills to Pick in Horizon Forbidden West

If we talk about HFW, it has six skill trees: Warrior, Trapper, Hunter, Survivor, Intruder and Machine Master. Each of these represents an aspect of Alloy's skill. So, Intruder is all about Stealth, Hunter for Range Combat, Trapper for Trap, and so on. Each skill is beneficial to some degree, but, of course, some are better than others. Let's start with the warrior skill tree. The first choice here should be the block breaker skill. It does exactly what it says - it will break enemy blocks while you are fighting them in melee. In Hunter Tree, the concentration skill is a no-brainer, as it will increase your range of concentration. The Valor Surge Master allows you to rapidly increase your valor, so it's a great pick as well.

If we talk about the survivor tree, then in this, an excellent starting option is powerful healing skills. Along with this, medicinal berries will provide better and faster healing. Similarly, drug capacity allows you to carry more medicinal berries. Heading towards the Intruder's tree. Silent Strike Passive Boost will increase your damage from Silent Strike. Works well with Quiet Spear, which reduces the noise from your melee attacks. Machine Master Tree's Mounted Defense skill will allow you to take less damage on the mount, so it's another good pick.
