The game follows Selene, an Astra scout who lands on the planet Atropos in search of the mysterious "White Shadow" signal and finds herself trapped in a time loop. Returnal brought the rogue-lite mainstream with excellent gameplay, a haunting mystery, and great use of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. This game is challenging but fair and is one of our favorite PS5-exclusive experiences.
HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED
Hot Wheels Unleashed is a racing game played from a third-person perspective. In the game, the player assumes control of vehicles from the Hot Wheels franchise, and raced against other opponents in miniature tracks set in various everyday locations and environments such garage, kitchen and bedroom. The vehicles featured in the game can be extensively customized. 66 different cars would be available at launch. The game also features a career mode, a time trial, and a track editor. The game supports up to 12 players in an online session, though players can also compete with another player in a local split-screen multiplayer mode. Hot Wheels Unleashed surprised us by being one of the best racing games of the year. Fun gameplay and tons of collectibles mean this is a game that the whole family can enjoy for hours and hours.
DEMON’S SOULS
Demon's Souls is an action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware for the PlayStation 3 under the supervision of Japan Studio. It was published in Japan by Sony Computer Entertainment in February 2009, in North America by Atlus USA in October 2009, and in PAL territories by Namco Bandai Games in June 2010. The game is referred to as a spiritual successor to FromSoftware's King's Field series. The PS3 classic has been beautifully remade for the PS5. Demon’s Souls contains the same difficult and addictive gameplay while taking advantage of the increased power and capabilities the PS5 has to offer.
GHOST OF TSUSHIMA
Ghost of Tsushima is a 2020 action-adventure game developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Featuring an open world, the player controls Jin Sakai, a samurai on a quest to protect Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. The game was released for PlayStation 4 on July 17, 2020, and a Director's Cut for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 was released on August 20, 2021. It received several award nominations and wins, and was praised for its visuals, art direction, narrative, and combat but was criticized for its open world design. Ghost of Tsushima had sold 6.5 million copies by March 2021. Ghost of Tsushima takes us back to a gorgeous recreation of feudal Japan. This game is one of the best last-gen PlayStation exclusives, and it’s even better on PS5 with improved visuals and performance.
RATCHET & CLANK: RIFT APART
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a 2021 third-person shooter platform game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5. The game introduces to the series the concept of real-time near instantaneous travel between different areas, planets and other worlds within gameplay scenes via a system of inter-dimensional portals.[8] In order for the player to utilize this feature, a new mechanic dubbed the "Rift Tether" is introduced in Ratchet and Rivet's arsenal that pulls them from one side of a portal to another, allowing them to move quickly between points. The game features the return of planets explored in previous entries with a dimensional twist, through their alternate counterparts, alongside new planets not seen previously in the franchise. The game features enhanced mobility and traversal options with the addition of moves such as dashing and wall running. In addition, the game’s arsenal features a mix of brand new weapons and returning classics from prior installments. Rift Apart flexed the PS5 muscle to quickly load expansive levels. SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a 2018 crossoverfighting game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a fighting game for up to eight players in which characters from Nintendo games and other third-party franchises must try to knock each other out of an arena. Each player has a percentage meter, which raises when they take damage, making them easier to launch in the air and out of the arena. Standard battles use one of three victory conditions: Timed, where players aim to win the most points by defeating opponents within a time limit; Stock, where players have a set number of lives and must aim to be the last player standing; and Stamina, where players must simply reduce their opponent's health down to zero to defeat them. Players can adjust the rules to their liking and save them as presets for future matches. The last DLC was recently released for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but that doesn’t mean the fun is over. Now is a great time to pick up a copy of one of the most beloved fighting games of all time.
METROID DREAD
Metroid Dread[a] is an action-adventure game developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD, released on October 8, 2021, for the Nintendo Switch. Metroid Dread is an action-adventure game in which players control bounty hunter Samus Aran as she explores the planet ZDR. It retains the side-scrolling gameplay of previous Metroid games, alongside the free aim and melee attacks added in Samus Returns (2017). As the player explores, they discover new items and weapons, allowing them to access new areas.
Dread adds stealth elements, with Samus avoiding the EMMI robots in certain areas by hiding, reducing her noise, and using the Phantom Cloak, camouflage that makes her invisible but slows her movement. If an EMMI catches Samus, the player has two brief chances to perform melee counters and escape. If they fail, Samus is killed. EMMIs can only be destroyed when Samus obtains the temporary "Omega Blaster" upgrade, which is lost upon using it to destroy one; however, destroying an EMMI grants Samus a new permanent upgrade. Players unlock images in an in-game gallery based on their completion time, difficulty level, and percentage of items collected. Metroid was (largely) a dormant franchise for years, but Metroid Dread brought it back with a vengeance. It was one of our favorite games of this year and shouldn’t be missed.
ANIMAL CROSSING: NEW HORIZONS
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a 2020 social simulation game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch; it is the fifth main entry in the Animal Crossing series. In New Horizons, the player controls a character who moves to a deserted island after purchasing a getaway package from Tom Nook, playing the game in a nonlinear fashion and developing the island as they choose. They can gather and craft items, customize the island, and develop it into a community of anthropomorphic animals. Amid lockdown, Animal Crossing: New Horizons took the world by storm. Over a year later, players are still tending to their islands and enjoying new content from Nintendo.
MARIO KART 8 DELUXE
Mario Kart 8 is a kart racing video game developed and published by Nintendo, and first released for the Wii U in 2014. It retains Mario Kart series game mechanics, where players control Mario franchise characters in kart racing, collecting a variety of items to hinder opponents or gain advantages in the race. Mario Kart 8 introduces anti-gravity driving on walls or ceilings, and allows players to bump into each other for a short boost. It has single-player and multiplayer modes, including online via the Nintendo Network. Mario Kart needs no introduction, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is arguably the best entry in the series. This king of cart racing is an essential title for the Switch.
POKEMON BRILLIANT DIAMOND AND SHINING PEARL
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl are 2021 remakes of the 2006 Nintendo DS role-playing video games Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The games are part of the eighth generation of the Pokémon video game series and were developed by ILCA and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo Switch. The games were released on 19 November 2021. They were announced as part of the Pokémon 25th Anniversary event, alongside Pokémon Legends: Arceus. They are the first main Pokémon games not to be developed by Game Freak. Return to nostalgic Sinnoh with these remakes of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Catching them all is just as fun as you remember it, and now a whole new generation of trainers get to experience it for the first time.

CALL OF DUTY: VANGUARD
Call of Duty: Vanguard is a 2021 first-person shooter game developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. It was released on November 5 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It serves as the 18th installment in the overall Call of Duty series. It establishes a storyline featuring the birth of the special forces to face an emerging threat at the end of the war during various theatres of World War II. Go back to World War II in this year’s Call of Duty. Vanguard’s campaign isn’t the best, but its multiplayer is one of the hottest of the year and features some improvements over last year’s Black Ops Cold War.
MASS EFFECT LEGENDARY EDITION
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a compilation of the video games in the Mass Effect trilogy: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3. It was developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. All three games were remastered, with visual enhancements, technical improvements, and gameplay adjustments. Mass Effect, the first game of the trilogy, received more extensive upgrades than its counterparts, specifically with regard to graphics, combat mechanics, vehicle handling, and loading times. The Mass Effect Trilogy is one of gaming’s greatest achievements, and the Legendary Edition brings it to modern consoles for all to enjoy. This updated version brings enhanced graphics, quality-of-life upgrades, and more.
DRAGON QUEST XI S: ECHOES OF AN ELUSIVE AGE – DEFINITIVE EDITION
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square Enix. An entry in the long-running Dragon Quest video game series, it was released in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4 in July 2017 and worldwide for the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows in September 2018. An enhanced version, Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition, was released for Nintendo Switch in September 2019; for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One in December 2020; and for Stadia in March 2021. Includes the acclaimed DRAGON QUEST XI, and adds extra character-specific scenarios, the choice of playing with the original soundtrack or a grand orchestral version of the music, the ability to switch between 2D and 3D graphic modes, a Japanese voice-acting option, and much more. The definitive version of Dragon Quest XI brings all the content of the original along with a 2D classic play mode and an orchestrated soundtrack. This was one of the last works from acclaimed composer Koichi Sugiyama before his death and is a treat for any RPG fan.
ASSASSIN’S CREED VALHALLA
Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is the twelfth major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, and the successor to 2018's Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Principally set in the years 872–878 AD, the game recounts a fictional story during the Viking expansions into the British Isles. Players control Eivor Varinsdottir, a Viking raider who becomes embroiled in the centuries-old conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood, who fight for peace and liberty, and the Templar Order, who desire peace through control. The modern-day portion of the story is set in the 21st century and follows Layla Hassan, an Assassin who relives Eivor's memories so as to find a way to save the Earth from destruction. Return to the time of Vikings in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. This game is one of the largest Assassin’s Creed games yet, and it’s only going to get bigger with future DLC.
DOOM ETERNAL
Doom Eternal is a first-person shooter game developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. The sequel to Doom (2016), and the fifth main game in the Doom series, it was released on March 20, 2020, for Windows, PlayStation 4, Stadia and Xbox One, with a version for Nintendo Switch being released on December 8, 2020 and versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S being released on June 29, 2021. Set some time after the events of the 2016 game, the story follows the Doomguy once again, on a mission to end Hell's consumption of Earth and foil the alien Maykr's plans to exterminate humanity. The ripping and tearing continue in Doom Eternal. It takes the winning formula of Doom (2016) and adds more diverse weaponry and mobility to make a worthy successor.
