Speed Boost 2K21

A set of controls called Speed Boost can be used to obtain a burst of speed out of a dribbling manoeuvre. When your player does a size-up dribble move and then swiftly presses the turbo button, the dribble motion will gain additional acceleration. It will be easier to go past your defence if you do this. In 2K21, speed-boosting is really overpowered, making it nearly impossible to defend against it. Read on to learn how you can execute it.

How To Speed Boost In NBA 2K21?

Speed Boost is fairly easy to execute. Press Right Stick Up to start the size-up animation, then press R2 / RT and Left Stick towards the ball hand (when the ball is on the side during the animation). To "speed boost" out of the animation. But to execute this, your players must meet a few requirements. Learn more about this below!

Basic Speed Boost:

For the lack of a better term, I call this “basic” since you’re not doing any fancy dribble moves.

This is the easiest way to perform a speed boost. This doesn’t mean that other speed-boosting moves are complicated though. It’s just that this is the easiest one to execute in 2k21.

Anyway, here are the instructions:

  1. Flick the Right Stick Up. Regardless of where you’re dribbling the ball, this will switch the dribbling hand right to left and vice versa.
  2. Once the ball is on the opposite hand, flick the Left Stick in the same direction for about half a second then do step 3 right away.

For example, if you’re holding the ball from the right when you do step 1, it will switch to the left. Therefore, you will move the Left Stick to the left as well.
  3. Quickly press and hold R2 (for Playstation users) or RT (for X Box users) while still pressing the Left Stick to the direction of the ball or forward.

You will still get the speed boost animation even if you skip step 2. But I find that you will get some sort of delay if you skip it.

In and Out Speed Boost:

For this one, the concept is pretty much the same as the basic speed boost. The only difference is the animation

Here are the instructions:

  1. Flick the Right Stick diagonally to the direction of the ball to trigger the in and out dribble move.

So if the ball is currently on the right, you will flick the Right Stick North East.
  2. Use the Left Stick to the direction where the ball is.

In this case, we never switched the ball direction so you will flick the Left Stick to the right as well.
  3. Press and hold R2 or RT while still moving the Left Stick to the direction you want to go.

Crossover Speed Boost:

This is like an upgraded version of the basic speed boost. You do the same thing but instead of walking in the same direction of the handling ball, you will walk in the same direction from where you started.

Let’s say we’re starting from the right:

  1. Flick the Right Stick up or Right Stick left.
  2. Once the ball switch to the left, flick the Left Stick in the opposite direction.

In this case, we should flick the Left Stick to the right.
  3. Once the ball is back to the right hand, press and hold the R2 or RT button while pressing the Left Stick rightwards.

Just reverse everything if you’re starting from the left.

Signature Size Up Speed Boost:

This one mainly relies on your timing and the equipped signature size animation you have.

Here’s how you do it:

  1. Trigger the size up animation by pressing and holding the Right Stick up.

In 2k21, this animation will not stop until you release the right stick.

Don’t do this near the basket though, or it will trigger the shooting motion instead.
  2. Wait until the ball is in the same direction you want to go.

So if you want to speed boost to the left, wait until the ball is in the left hand.
  3. Once you know which direction you want to go, let go of the Right Stick.

Then quickly press and hold R2 or RT while pressing the Left Stick to the direction you want to run.

Basically, you will execute your signature size up animation. Then speed boost out of it once the ball hand (left or right) is in the same direction you want to go.

Requirements for Executing Speed Boost

Listed below are the requirements for executing the speed boost in 2K21,

  • To speed boost, your MyPLAYER needs an 86 or higher Ball Handling rating.
  • In NBA 2K21, speed-boosting is based on your MyPLAYER's "Speed With Ball" rating. According to NBA 2K Gameplay Director Mike Wang, speed with the ball accounts for 70% of your Speed rating and 30% of your Ball Handling rating when calculating the rating. The prerequisites for NBA 2K21 speed boosting are the same.
  • Your dribbling moves will launch out faster if you have the Quick First Step badge.
  • A minimum of 85 ball-handling is required for pro dribble moves.

Speed Boost 2K21: FAQs

How do you speed boost in NBA 2K21?

To perform a speed boost, hold R2 (RT on Xbox One), then flick the Right Stick Up to initiate a size-up animation, then, when the player is holding the ball to one side during the animation, use the Left Stick to run in whatever direction the ball is on to accelerate out of the animation.

Is 80 Ball handle good 2K21?

In order to be a good dribbler in NBA 2K21, having a high ball-handle rating of at least 80 is arguably the most important first step

Does speed matter in 2K21 Next Gen?

Only the acceleration stat affects how quickly your player gets up to top speedSpeed rating and weight have no impact.

Does strength matter 2K21?

Undoubtedly, it is important in NBA 2K, but it does not matter in every aspect, so it doesn't mean the higher the strength, the better. Strength matters a lot in terms of defence and not necessarily not getting dunked.

What does your driving dunk have to be to dunk 2K21?

Why can't i Curry slide 2K21?

If you can't curry slide, most likely your hand movements are not following the correct order or they're not well coordinated. The key to curry sliding is to hold the right controller stick down. Also, if the stick function is set to Dribble, the curry slide animation won't activate.

Why can't I dunk in 2K21?

A reason you may not be dunking is that you are not pressing the right buttons. Just pressing the shoot button as you are running at the basket can result in a dunk but you can tell NBA 2K21 which dunk you would like to do instead of it choosing for you.
